Kota bharu: The Kelantan state government is taking a serious view of activities involving a small group of youths near the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP), Pengkalan Chepa, following viral social media reports.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Youth, Sports, NGO, and Community Unity Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad emphasized that there should be no compromise on actions that could jeopardize public safety. He noted that addressing the issue requires firm enforcement by authorities. Zamakhshari stated that the matter should be resolved through long-term solutions rather than labels or perceptions that do not contribute to building a future generation. The state government plans to implement a comprehensive strategy that includes enforcement, youth development, recreational facility provision, and alternative activities.
Zamakhshari mentioned that the government is collaborating closely with authorities such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department (JPJ), and Malaysia Airports Berhad to enhance enforcement efforts. This statement was made during a press briefing following the exco meeting at Kompleks Kota Darul Naim.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has instructed the JPJ to carry out a large-scale enforcement operation at LTSIP. The media previously reported that the new LTSIP Pengkalan Chepa terminal's departure hall, operational for less than a month, was being used as a racing circuit by mat rempit.
