Kota bharu: The Kelantan state government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), will identify the best solution to address the issue of students crossing Sungai Golok from Thailand via illegal routes to attend schools around Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated that one of the proposed measures is to provide accommodation or special hostels for the affected students. He emphasized the state government's awareness of the issue and mentioned that a resolution was reached amicably yesterday. Through the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK), in conjunction with MOE and relevant authorities, efforts will be made to ensure that students can continue their education without disruption. He stressed the importance of education for these Malaysian citizen children living near the border and the state's commitment to preventing them from dropping out due to this issue. He urged both parents and students to adhere to the n ew measures to be implemented. The incident came to light when 34 schoolchildren, aged between seven and 16, from two primary schools and a secondary school were detained at around 7am after crossing Sungai Golok illegally from Thailand into Malaysia. In a separate incident, commenting on the accident at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjong Mas, which resulted in the death of a Form One schoolgirl yesterday, Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan highlighted the importance of safety. He expressed his condolences to the victim's family and urged the public to refrain from making negative comments. The accident occurred at 1.50pm when Nur Fatimatul Hawa Mohd Azaudin, 13, died at the scene, and another schoolgirl was seriously injured after being hit by a car driven by a teacher. Initial investigations by Kota Bharu police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri revealed that the driver mistakenly stepped on the accelerator, leading to the vehicle losing control and hitting the victims.
