Kelantan Police Out To Nab 60 Addicts A Day Under ‘Ops Drug Jihad’

Kota bharu: Kelantan police are targeting to arrest at least 60 drug addicts daily through an operation codenamed 'Ops Drug Jihad' to reduce the property crime rate in the state. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that drug addicts have been identified as the main culprits of property crime, particularly petty theft and housebreaking.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat has issued instructions to the head of the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department to carry out continuous arrest operations to apprehend daily drug abusers. He emphasized that drugs are closely linked to crime, especially property crimes, not only in Kelantan but everywhere. The implementation of 'Drug Jihad' is expected to reduce the crime rate significantly.

Datuk Yusoff further explained that drug addicts are predominantly responsible for most property crimes, unlike violent crimes such as armed robbery, which are harder to prevent. He made these remarks during a press conference after the Kelantan police contingent headquarters' Monthly Assembly for September.

While the property crime index has recorded a 26.6 percent drop compared to last year, Datuk Yusoff stressed that police cannot afford to be complacent and must continue to fulfill their duties diligently.
