Kelantan to Revive One Village, One Industry Initiative with Focus on Local Products

Kota bharu: The Kelantan government aims to strengthen the One Village, One Industry initiative by focusing on developing the potential of each village to produce competitive local products. State Investment, Industry, Human Resources, Trade and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Major (Rtd) Datuk Md Anizam Ab Rahman announced plans to not only increase residents' incomes but also nurture more entrepreneurs, particularly in rural areas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Md Anizam highlighted the success of the initiative in Thailand and expressed the opportunity to implement it effectively in Kelantan. He noted that it had been previously implemented but was later discontinued. Kampung Laut in Tumpat, known for its serunding-based products, was cited as an example of a village capitalizing on local specialties. The initiative aims to expand such successes to other villages, leveraging Kelantan's strong food industry.

Md Anizam's comments came during the 'Thailand-Malaysia Trade Partnership Forum 2025', an event attended by the Consul General of Thailand in Kota Bharu, Mr Phasit Chudabuddhi. The forum served as a platform to discuss strengthening trade ties with Thailand, focusing on the tourism sector and cross-border trade.

The committee chairman emphasized the identification of products with potential in the Thai market, such as the distinct motifs of Malaysian and Thai batik. The aim is to promote these unique features and explore opportunities for Kelantanese food products that are currently unavailable in Thailand. Md Anizam also addressed the importance of improving security measures, customs, and immigration controls to facilitate legitimate trade and curb illegal activities along the state's borders.
