Kuala lumpur: The commotion during the eviction operation at Kampung Sungai Baru here should not have happened as the affected residents had long been given eviction notices, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In this regard, he said he would ask Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Ghani, who has also been appointed to lead UMNO's Special Task Force on improving the Urban Renewal Bill (PSB), to address the matter immediately.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, although there were plans to hold a convention regarding the PSB Bill, immediate action will be taken in line with the existing legal system, as stated by Ahmad Zahid during a keynote address at the Global Islamic Finance Summit. The situation escalated when Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Suzilme Affendy Sulaiman was injured on the head, reportedly by a stone thrown by an unidentified individual while managing the power supply cut-off operation at several houses in the area.
Videos of the altercation between security forces and residents quickly gained traction on social media. The operation was executed following a court order concerning the demolition of house structures within Kampung Sungai Baru. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim condemned the assault on Suzilme Affendy, labeling it a reprehensible act.
