Kuala lumpur: Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Berhad (KHSB) has expanded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts by joining the Adopt a Turtle Programme, supporting sea turtle conservation initiatives led by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and the Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU) at the Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary on Pulau Redang.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, KHSB chief operating officer Edi Abdul Rahim stated that the recent initiative reflects the company's commitment to marine biodiversity conservation, particularly in protecting endangered turtle species. He highlighted that the move aligns with the aspirations of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), KHSB's parent company, to advance the Sustainable Development Goals for environmental sustainability and future wellbeing.
As a symbolic gesture of KHSB's involvement, 20 hatchlings were released into the open sea, representing the company's ongoing commitment to safeguarding marine life for future generations. The release aimed to raise awareness and encourage a sense of responsibility among the public and corporate sector on the importance of nature conservation.
In addition to their participation in the programme, KHSB contributed RM53,000 to UMT for the construction of Balai Saf, a prayer space for visitors and volunteers at the conservation site. Edi Abdul Rahim emphasized that this programme is a strategic platform to boost collaboration between the corporate sector and academia, while encouraging active participation in sustainability and social responsibility efforts that benefit both the environment and the community.
