Kuala Lampur:The Works Ministry is developing a National Reference Platform for Road Information under the MyJalan initiative, aiming to integrate data from federal, state, and local authorities, along with highway concessionaires.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi explained that the initiative seeks to establish a unified national road data ecosystem. This system will be governed by standardized frameworks and streamlined data collection processes, providing a comprehensive view of Malaysia's roads with uniform standards and data.
During the MyASEAN roads and traffic tech expo (MyARTTE) 2026, Nanta highlighted the ministry's success in securing participation from over half of the states, including Penang, which signed the agreement. He expressed confidence that the remaining states would soon join the initiative.
A priority under the roadmap is defining road ownership boundaries using Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping. Road asset owners will be required to maintain complete and regularly updated databases, adhering to strict key performance indicators (KPIs), action plans, and timelines to ensure data integrity.
Nanta emphasized the importance of accurate, data-driven decision-making for improving road maintenance, optimizing planning, and enhancing responses to public concerns to mitigate traffic congestion and prevent accidents. He called for increased cross-sector collaboration to overcome jurisdictional overlaps and keep the public informed about road networks for safer and more comfortable travel.
Earlier, Nanta remarked that initiatives like MyJalan and the No Wrong Door Policy are crucial as they focus on organizing government efforts around public needs rather than institutional boundaries.
