Kuala lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur Police propose making KK Mart convenience stores as Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) locations through a strategic collaboration with the company to strengthen crime monitoring and prevention efforts in the capital. Its chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, stated that around 700 KK Mart branches in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor have been identified as potential safe locations for the public during emergencies, due to their 24-hour operation, bright lighting, and centralised CCTV systems.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the GTSP programme is an initiative aimed at creating a network of strategic partner premises that function as safety points for immediate public assistance in emergencies, crimes, or security threats. Datuk Fadil Marsus emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in terms of patrolling and monitoring to ensure these premises become reliable safe havens for the public.

Fadil shared these insights during a press conference for the opening of a KK Mart branch at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent headquarters (IPK), attended by KK Supermart and Superstore Sdn Bhd founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Chai Kee Kan. He also mentioned the possibility of gaining access to the centralised CCTV of the store chain to bolster security monitoring in nearby areas.

Meanwhile, Fadil highlighted that the KK Mart branch at the Kuala Lumpur IPK is the first of its kind in a PDRM building, with plans to open more branches in police buildings to benefit both police personnel and the local community. Regarding the regulation of goods sold, he assured that business operations at the KK Mart in the Kuala Lumpur IPK would adhere to government premises regulations, prohibiting the sale of any unauthorized items.

Chai Kee Kan noted that there are currently approximately 1,100 KK Mart branches nationwide and expressed interest in expanding into government buildings. He also supported the GTSP initiative, offering to share CCTV footage from the store chain to assist PDRM investigations.
