KM4 Federal Flats Reconstruction in Kota Kinabalu Set to Begin March 20

Kota kinabalu: The reconstruction project of the Federal Flats Quarters KM4 at Jalan Tuaran in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is scheduled to commence on March 20 utilizing the Design and Build method, with a total budget of RM159.79 million, announced Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The project aims to construct 216 new residential units equipped with supporting facilities to ensure a safer and more conducive living environment for civil servants.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this initiative is part of the MADANI Government's efforts to provide safe, comfortable, and conducive quarters for civil servants, thus enhancing the quality of service delivery to the people, especially in Sabah. The announcement was made during a ceremony where the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was handed over and the project director was appointed.

The construction contract has been awarded to Bangkit Energy and Pro Logistic (EM) Sdn Bhd. The project's implementation and monitoring will be managed by the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) and the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia. Nanta emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the implementing agency and the contractor to ensure the project is completed according to specifications, within the allocated timeframe, and budget.

Built in 1983 and in use since then, the KM4 Federal Flats were declared unsafe in 2022 due to severe structural damage after nearly four decades of use. The Prime Minister's Department subsequently provided a special allocation to facilitate the rebuilding of the quarters.

The new development will feature not only modern and sustainable residential units but also include a surau, a multipurpose hall, a kindergarten, a childcare centre, parking spaces, and other supporting facilities. Meanwhile, Nanta highlighted that JKR Malaysia, as a strategic partner to the Prime Minister's Department in national infrastructure development, has issued 24 LOAs since 2024. In the first two months of 2026 alone, three LOAs have been issued, including for the project witnessed today.
