Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations and warm welcome to the government of Kosovo on the opening of its embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which is scheduled to be officially inaugurated at 6 pm today. Speaking at a joint press conference held in conjunction with the four-day official visit of Kosovo's President, Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, Anwar described the establishment of the embassy as a landmark moment in strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia and Kosovo.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this development is expected to facilitate trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism between the two countries. Anwar highlighted the potential for cooperation in halal products, leveraging Malaysia's internationally recognised halal specifications to aid in the export of products from both nations. He further stressed the importance of economic collaboration, particularly in utilizing Kosovo's ties with the European Union to enhance trade and investment.
During the visit, President Osmani Sadriu was accorded an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex. The Prime Minister assured President Osmani Sadriu that Malaysia does not view this as a mere diplomatic engagement but as a commitment to being a true friend to Kosovo. He mentioned plans to resume bilateral consultations at the official level to ensure the smooth implementation of various programmes and projects.
Anwar and President Osmani Sadriu also exchanged views on global developments, sharing a strong belief in independence, human rights, and respect for human dignity. Their discussions included a wide range of global issues, such as the situation in Palestine and efforts to promote peace worldwide.
Reflecting on the deepening ties between the nations, Anwar acknowledged Malaysia's long-standing support for Kosovo's journey to independence and stability. He recalled the difficulties and hardships faced by the people of Kosovo and noted Malaysia's early recognition of Kosovo's independence during Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's tenure as Prime Minister.
