Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will soon engage with the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Operators Association (PRESMA) to address claims of a 10 to 30 percent increase in operating costs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that Datuk Azman Adam, the director-general of the KPDN Enforcement Division, has been assigned to gather detailed explanations supported by solid evidence and data. KPDN aims to collaborate with industry stakeholders to develop a mutually beneficial solution by examining factors such as supply chain dynamics, input costs, and global influences on operators. However, any adjustments in pricing must be justified based on actual costs rather than arbitrary decisions.
Fuziah emphasized that the ministry is prepared to enforce the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 against any profiteering or unwarranted price hikes. Recently, PRESMA highlighted that restaurant operators are experiencing cost increases between 10 and 30 percent due to global economic pressures. Mohamed Mosin Abdul Razak, the president of PRESMA, noted that these increases stem from supply chain disruptions, elevated logistics costs, and global uncertainties affecting raw materials, packaging, cooking gas, and utilities.
