Johor bahru: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) today launched the 2025 Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM), themed 'Jom Beli Lokal' (Let's Buy Local), aiming to boost sales of local products and reduce dependency on imports. Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali emphasized that the campaign focuses on increasing sales value and market penetration of local products, strengthening domestic economic growth, and supporting local entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali highlighted that the campaign directly supports income generation for local entrepreneurs while contributing to national economic growth. The initiative also aims to showcase the quality of local products as a preferred choice, thereby decreasing reliance on imported goods. The launch took place during the KPDN 2025 Roadshow at the Puteri Harbour Convention Centre.
He noted that KBBM's implementation involves not only KPDN but also various ministries and government agencies through a 'whole-of-nation' approach. The Minister encouraged participation from the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to prioritize quality and competitive local products. The campaign will be executed through promotions at business premises and expanded to e-commerce platforms in collaboration with major operators.
Armizan stated that this e-commerce strategy is crucial as it provides the opportunity to present local products to a broader market. KPDN recorded a sales value exceeding RM347 million through KBBM over 2023 and 2024, involving nearly 700,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) across three major e-commerce platforms: TikTok, Shopee, and Lazada.
Also present at the event were Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, and state Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han. Johor was chosen as the location for the three-day KPDN 2025 Southern Zone Roadshow, continuing until June 29, after a positive response in 2024 with 761,659 attendees.
The tour will proceed across five other zones - Northern Zone (Kedah), Eastern Zone (Pahang), Central Zone (Selangor), Sabah Zone, and Sarawak Zone - featuring consumer advocacy programmes, local product promotions, and exhibitions by government agencies.
