Kuala Lumpur:KPJ Healthcare Bhd has launched PROM-Connect, a digital platform designed to facilitate the systematic collection and management of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) across its hospital network. This initiative is a part of the group's Value-Based Care transformation under Malaysia's first private Academic Health System, the KPJ Health System.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PROMs are tools used to capture patients' personal assessments of their treatment outcomes, functional status, and quality of life throughout their care journey. PROM-Connect integrates various functions such as patient engagement, questionnaire distribution, reminders, response tracking, and outcome monitoring into a single digital platform.
Johor Specialist Hospital has been selected as the pilot site, with the PROM programme currently being implemented across 14 KPJ hospitals. The goal is to achieve implementation readiness across 19 hospitals by the end of 2026. Following this, hospitals with established PROM programmes will be progressively onboarded to the platform, with further expansion planned from 2027 based on each hospital's readiness.
Professor Datuk Dr. Hanafiah Harunarashid, KPJ Healthcare's officer-in-charge, highlighted that while clinical outcomes are essential in assessing care, they do not always fully reflect patients' recovery experiences. PROMs help fill this gap by incorporating the patient's perspective into care assessment, aiding in identifying areas for improvement. The ultimate goal is to use these insights to make better care decisions and achieve improved patient outcomes.
Following the pilot at Johor Specialist Hospital, KPJ Healthcare will focus on stabilizing the system, refining workflows, and gathering user feedback before introducing PROM-Connect to additional hospitals. The technology is intended to complement existing clinical and operational processes, with hospital ownership, clinician engagement, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient participation being crucial to its success.
PROM-Connect also aligns with the broader KPJ Health System model, which aims to continuously improve care through the integration of clinical care, education, and research.
