Johor bahru: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has allocated RM216.44 million to Johor to boost housing development, public amenities, and community welfare. The minister, Nga Kor Ming, announced that the funds are part of the ministry's development programme under the first rolling plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the funding encompasses several strategic initiatives, including affordable housing projects, maintenance of stratified homes, public amenities, community safety, solid waste management, and urban and rural development. Nga Kor Ming emphasized the commitment of the MADANI Government to ensure that the people of Johor have access to quality housing and comfortable public amenities.
Nga highlighted the example of Flat Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, a 41-year-old housing complex and the largest in Johor, where renovation works have commenced on the first 10 blocks as part of the community outreach programme. The majority of the funds will focus on advancing the public housing agenda through initiatives like Rumah Malaysia, the People's Housing Project (PPR), the People's Residency Programme (PRR), and the MADANI Inclusive Housing Development (PIM).
The allocation will also cover upgrading public infrastructure, such as markets, MADANI stalls, drainage systems, public toilets, recreational parks, fire stations, and residential areas. To support sustainable development, funds have been directed towards solid waste management projects, safe landfill closures, and public landscaping projects.
Nga also mentioned the continuation of the Urban Housing Refurbishment Programme, the Non-Muslim Houses of Worship Maintenance Initiative, and New Village Development Projects, all aimed at improving welfare and strengthening community unity. He assured that the ministry would maintain strategic cooperation with the Johor state government and local authorities to ensure efficient and transparent execution of all projects.
