KPKT to Enhance Urban Renewal Bill Through Continued Engagement

Kuala lumpur: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will persist in conducting engagement sessions to refine the Urban Renewal Bill. Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, stated that discussions will be held with local residents, academics, elected representatives, and industry experts to incorporate diverse perspectives in the bill's drafting process.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the aim of the bill is to enhance quality of life in neglected urban areas, rejuvenate local socio-economies, and safeguard the rights of original owners in the urban renewal process. Nga emphasized that the ministry will thoroughly review feedback to improve the bill, ensuring comprehensive protection of original owners' rights.

The bill, once refined, will be presented in an enhanced format after the finalization process. Nga assured that KPKT is dedicated to supporting an urban renewal agenda that aligns with the MADANI government's aspirations for safer, better planned, sustainable, and livable urban environments.

MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced earlier that the Cabinet recognized the need for bill improvements to address housing issues in urban areas, particularly affecting the urban poor, fairly. The second reading of the bill, initially tabled on August 28, was postponed for further discussion in the next session.
