Kuala Lumpur: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) presented 12 commitments to boost public prosperity during the Cabinet retreat yesterday. Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, emphasized the ministry's dedication to enhancing living conditions across Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the commitments include achieving the target of 500,000 affordable housing units under the 12th Malaysia Plan and constructing 5,500 Mesra Rakyat housing units by the National Housing Corporation. Additionally, the ministry plans to launch the MADANI Malaysia Town under PR1MA to further promote homeownership and ensure safe living environments for Malaysians.
Nga Kor Ming highlighted the ministry's focus on building new homes and restoring 5,000 units of dilapidated housing for the lower-income group. The ministry also aims to implement 358 maintenance projects for low and medium-cost flats, which involves repairing and replacing broken down lifts.
In terms of waste management, the ministry is set to close 2,500 illegal dumpsites and seize illegal lorries. Expanding producers' responsibilities is another key initiative, aiming to manage post-consumer products effectively.
The ministry also plans to implement 6,000 basic public infrastructure development projects and establish 100 MADANI public parks to enhance the country's landscape industry. Strengthening the Fire and Rescue Department is another priority, with plans to improve the legal framework by amending the Fire Service Act.
Other legal improvements include introducing community service as a punishment for littering and implementing the Urban Renewal Act. These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve public welfare and environmental management in Malaysia.
