Kuala lumpur: Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has reiterated the MADANI Government's commitment to media freedom, emphasizing the vital role of the press in disseminating government policies. Nga underscored the importance of a collaborative relationship between the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and the media to ensure effective communication and understanding of government initiatives.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nga's statement followed a morning tea session held at the ministry's office in Putrajaya. This gathering included representatives from major media associations such as the National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJ), the Malaysian Media Council (MMC), and Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm).

The event served as an opportunity for an open exchange of views and ideas aimed at strengthening the synergy between KPKT and the media. This collaboration is seen as a step towards advancing the Malaysia MADANI agenda, which focuses on the well-being of the people and the nation's prosperity. KPKT highlighted the session's role in fostering a mutual understanding with the media.

In attendance were KPKT secretary-general Datuk Nor Azman Taib, NUJ president Low Boon Tat, and the union's secretary-general Teh Athira Mohamed Yusof. The meeting came on the heels of a recent incident in Bukit Bintang, where Nga issued an apology and retracted a statement made against a journalist during the pre-launch of the I Lite U lighting project. The incident had sparked criticism from media groups, including NUJ and Geramm, after a video of Nga's sharp response to a media question went viral.
