KPWKM Provides Immediate Aid to 10 UPSI Students in ICU After Tragic Bus Crash

Ipoh: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will allocate RM1,000 each in immediate aid to 10 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) currently in the intensive care units of two hospitals in Perak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri announced that the aid will be distributed through Yayasan Kebajikan Negara under the "Skim Pemberian Ehsan Kepada Keluarga Mangsa." She mentioned that her deputy, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, will be visiting the affected students on her behalf.

Nancy informed that eight students are receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital, while two are in Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh. She made these remarks after officiating the Women Seminar 2025 "EmpowerHER: Engage Energise Elevate."

The minister also stated that the ministry is considering additional support for the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. She emphasized the importance of providing emotional support alongside financial aid, noting that families need time to grieve. The ministry is prepared to offer professional counseling services, though they intend to approach sensitively given the families' current state of distress.

The crash, which occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, involved a chartered bus carrying UPSI students from Jertih to Tanjung Malim. The bus overturned after colliding with a Perodua Alza, resulting in 15 fatalities and 33 injuries, including the bus driver, his assistant, and the Alza's driver and three passengers.
