KPWKM Strengthens Support for Women Facing Domestic Challenges

Melaka: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is intensifying its efforts to support women, particularly those affected by domestic violence and sexual crimes, by enhancing awareness and counselling programmes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying emphasized the ministry's focus on prevention while also ensuring immediate assistance for victims. The ministry offers various forms of support, including counselling services and guidance on further action for women experiencing such situations. Lim stressed the importance of being proactive in providing necessary help to victims, including counselling and other forms of assistance.

Lim highlighted the ongoing advocacy efforts by the Department of Women Development, which aims to increase public awareness regarding women's issues and family institutions. A notable initiative in this regard is the PRISMAnita programme, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which focuses on aiding single mothers, especially those who have undergone divorce. The programme aims to educate women about their rights and assist them in managing their finances and rebuilding their lives.

Furthermore, Lim discussed the importance of collaboration between state and Federal governments through initiatives like the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme. This cooperation is designed to expand the assistance network for families facing economic challenges. Lim pointed out that both levels of government possess unique resources and roles, and working together enhances the effectiveness of aid provided.

In her remarks, Lim also urged non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private companies to collaborate with the government in tackling social and community welfare issues, emphasizing the significance of joint efforts in reaching families truly in need.
