Kuala Lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) rounded up 176 illegal immigrants during an operation carried out around Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang, tonight. Kuala Lumpur JIM director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff stated that the operation began at 7.15pm with the cooperation of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), following public complaints and investigations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the detained individuals included 71 from Bangladesh, 60 from Myanmar, 24 from Indonesia, 16 from Nepal, three from Pakistan, and one each from Egypt and Sudan. The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, along with Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, which covers the offences of not possessing valid documents and overstaying in the country.
Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff informed reporters that all those arrested were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Headquarters for documentation and further action. The operation involved 61 JIM officers and personnel, alongside 30 DBKL officers.
