Accra:The Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) has designated RM750 million under Budget 2027 for Projek Vista Kampus, aimed at generating long-term returns through commercial investments across six selected universities. This allocation is part of a strategic investment plan rather than a grant, intended to support the retirement fund's sustainability.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the funds will be progressively deployed on a project-by-project basis, pending KWAP's investment evaluation and approval processes. Each proposed investment will be assessed on its commercial merits, viability, and risk-return considerations before capital is committed.
The initiative was highlighted as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the Universiti Malaya Student Residence project, which aims to accommodate 40,000 students in two phases. Anwar emphasized the need for efficient project management free from financial wastage.
KWAP's participation in Projek Vista Kampus aligns with government priorities under Budget 2027 to enhance higher education infrastructure and student accommodation. Investments are structured to generate stable, recurring income, although specific terms and structures are still being finalized.
The fund's approach is guided by its mandate under the Retirement Fund Act 2007, focusing on supporting federal pension liabilities and pursuing viable investment opportunities. KWAP has previously invested in UK properties, achieving an average net yield of 5.08 percent, as part of its strategy to diversify its international real estate portfolio.
