Labuan:The Malaysian Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) has settled two cases involving claims related to cement and furniture purchases, with a combined compensation value of RM3,680.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Junaidah Arbain stated that TTPM president Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim presided over the hearings, which resulted in orders for the respondents to compensate the claimants. In the case involving cement, the tribunal directed the respondent to pay RM180 to the claimant within a week. Meanwhile, the furniture case saw the respondent ordered to refund RM3,500 within two weeks.
Junaidah emphasized that compliance with the tribunal's awards is mandatory within the specified timeframes, warning that failure to adhere could lead to enforcement action under the Consumer Protection Act 1999. She noted that the tribunal offers consumers a straightforward and cost-effective alternative to civil court proceedings for resolving disputes over goods and services.
The tribunal plays a crucial role in empowering consumers to secure redress in disputes involving purchases or services obtained. Junaidah encouraged consumers to use the tribunal and other official channels from KPDN to resolve issues, emphasizing KPDN Labuan's commitment to enhancing consumer protection and ensuring access to efficient dispute resolution processes.
