Lack Of Safe Work Procedure Causes Mechanic Assistant’s Death At Quarry

Kota Bharu: The Kelantan Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has determined that the absence of a safe work procedure led to the death of a mechanic assistant at a quarry in Mukim Jerus, Selising, last Friday. Its director, Abdul Aziz Salim, stated that DOSH investigators found no established safe work procedure for the Crushing Plant machinery.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan DOSH has issued a notice to the quarry company, prohibiting them from conducting any machine dismantling activities. Abdul Aziz Salim noted that the company's management and workers have been summoned to provide further statements to complete the investigation.

Legal action will be pursued against those responsible if any violations are discovered under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. The Act prescribes a maximum penalty of RM500,000 for employers found guilty. Abdul Aziz emphasized DOSH's commitment to taking every workplace accident seriously and urged employers to remain vigilant regarding safety and health during work activities.

Media reports revealed that the mechanic assistant succumbed to injuries after being crushed by a rubber counterweight from a conveyor machine while working at the quarry.
