Larut: Seventeen people from eight families have been evacuated to a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Hampar after floods hit Kampung Sungai Rotan, Trong in the district of Larut, Matang and Selama tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the district's Civil Defence Force operations control centre reported that a flooding alert was received at 5.40 pm. The flood was attributed to two hours of continuous rain coupled with clogged drains.

The centre elaborated that the flooding in Kampung Sungai Rotan was rapid, with water reaching a depth of approximately 0.5 metres. However, the situation showed signs of improvement as the water level was receding by 6.21 pm, despite ongoing rain.

District's disaster management committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat announced that the relief centre was operational from 8 pm tonight in response to the flooding, which also affected Kampung Batu 23 and Kampung Batu 25, Sungai Rotan, Batu Hampar.
