LHDN Unveils RM7.7 Billion in Additional Tax Assessments Following Comprehensive Audits

Kuala Lumpur:The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has completed audits and investigations of 408,726 cases this year, uncovering additional tax assessments totaling approximately RM7.7 billion.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, LHDN's Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin highlighted that the compliance and enforcement efforts targeted high-risk areas such as high-net-worth individuals, the tobacco, liquor, and vape sectors, as well as aggressive tax planning activities. Additionally, LHDN focused on transfer pricing issues, e-Invoice data, and information on Malaysian taxpayers' overseas accounts to ensure adherence to tax laws.

Dr Abu Tariq emphasized LHDN's commitment to voluntary compliance but warned that decisive action will be taken against those who intentionally evade tax obligations. Speaking at the opening ceremony of LHDN's 2026 Innovation and Integrity Day celebration, he discussed the agency's increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to boost operational efficiency, improve tax compliance, and enhance taxpayer services.

LHDN has developed several AI applications, including HAFY-TaxAssist, a chatbot providing round-the-clock tax information, and the Instrument Recognition and Intelligence Model (IRIM), which determines appropriate stamp duty rates. The agency also utilizes behavioral analytics for targeted monitoring and the Next-Best Action Predictive Model to identify suitable tax collection actions. The MyInvois Advanced Analytics Anomaly Detection Model has flagged over 7,700 potential tax-risk cases.

Furthermore, LHDN has introduced the LHDN Integrity Document to reinforce organizational accountability and governance, aligning with the LHDNM Anti-Corruption Strategy (SeAL) 2026-2028. This document serves as a key reference for integrity-related matters, aiming to prevent power abuse, conflicts of interest, or misconduct.
