Liew Denies Saying Govt Is Mulling 150-litre RON95 Limit

Kuala lumpur: Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong denied announcing that the government is mulling a 150-litre petrol RON95 limit under the BUDI95 programme. In a social media post, the minister stated that his explanation had been taken out of context.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Liew expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing that he did not announce anything on behalf of the government. He clarified that there was no mention of a 150-litre limit as a potential government policy during his remarks.

Liew elaborated that during a fireside chat at an AFFIN Bank event, he was questioned about the government's strategy to handle the global energy crisis. He explained that the BUDI95 mechanism is beneficial as it provides data to understand Malaysians' travel patterns. He further mentioned the importance of ensuring a sustained petrol supply and building consensus to support efforts aimed at reducing fuel consumption.
