Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) is set to start a new chapter in the country's professional football history when it hosts the inaugural Liga M Awards 2025-2026 at Auditorium Seri Angkasa here on Aug 12. The 8.30 pm-10 pm awards ceremony replaces the National Football Awards (ABK) and will be broadcast live via the Sukan+ and RTMKlik channels.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MFL president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan stated that the Liga M Awards is not merely a rebranding, but marks a new wave in efforts to recognise the excellence of players, coaches, teams, and supporters throughout the 2025-2026 Malaysia League season. "The Liga M Awards ceremony is a symbol of the new era in recognising the outstanding achievements of those involved in the Malaysia League," he expressed in a statement.
Ab Ghani elaborated that the rebranding transcends the name change, focusing on reforms in organisation, spectator experience, and commercial value to elevate the standard of professional football in the country. He acknowledged the cooperation of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) as a major broadcaster supporting the development of local football and appreciated the efforts of Communications Minister, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, in facilitating this historic collaboration.
While RTM serves as the official broadcaster of the Liga M Awards ceremony, Usaha Jana Sdn Bhd joins as the strategic partner and co-organiser. The collaboration is aimed at ensuring the awards night meets high standards, accessible to football fans nationwide via live telecast.
Broadcasting director-general Ashwad Ismail emphasized RTM's commitment to enhancing the broadcasting quality of local sports and ensuring the awards ceremony is of the highest caliber for all Malaysians. He expressed hope that the ceremony inspires young talents to aspire for greatness, including dreams of lifting the World Cup.
The awards ceremony will gather the best Malaysia League players, coaches, league partners, sponsors, and national legends to celebrate the achievements of the 2025-2026 season. A total of 15 award categories will be contested, following a comprehensive evaluation process of all 2025-2026 Malaysia League matches, including the Malaysia Cup final. The announcement of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is expected to be the highlight of the night.
