Kuala lumpur: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has approved 136 claims under the LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme since it came into effect on June 1, involving benefit payments totalling RM672,743.10 to contributors who suffered accidents or injuries outside working hours.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stated that the figure represents 62.9 per cent of the total claims submitted under the new scheme. He emphasized the expansion of PERKESO's coverage beyond workplace incidents to include accidents occurring outside working hours, including rest days and public holidays.
Ramanan highlighted that this measure ensures insured persons (IPs) who encounter misfortune outside official working hours continue to receive necessary protection and assistance, addressing a previous gap in coverage. He noted that accidents and unforeseen incidents can happen at any time, underscoring the importance of such comprehensive protection.
The scheme has already benefited individuals such as Husnizam Hisamudin and Muhammad Amirul Hazim Misnon, who were involved in a fatal accident in Simpang Renggam, Johor. Additionally, in Keningau, Sabah, Brissty Vidalyn Felicianus, an employee of the Community-Based Rehabilitation Organisation (PPDK), received coverage after an accident during a hiking activity.
PERKESO's Prihatin Squad is monitoring Felicianus, who suffered a fractured shoulder and right leg. She is receiving income replacement through the Temporary Disablement Benefit while on medical leave. Another case involved Chen Chee Ling in Perak, who fractured her wrist after slipping at an eatery.
Ramanan urged nationwide compliance with contribution requirements to ensure optimal protection for employees both at work and during personal time. He reiterated the significance of contributions in sustaining livelihoods, as accidents can occur unexpectedly during various activities.
