Live Events Industry Boosts Malaysian Economy With RM1.72 Billion Contribution

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's live events industry contributed nearly RM1.72 billion to the national economy last year after hosting more than 450 concerts nationwide, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said. He highlighted the significant role of the broader cultural and creative industry, which currently accounts for about 6.8 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), valued at more than RM130 billion.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized the need for continued growth in the industry. "This year, let us aim even higher. Initiatives such as the Concert and Event in Malaysia Incentive (CEMI) were introduced to attract international artistes, draw tourists and grow the wider industry ecosystem," he stated in a Facebook post today.

Fahmi further mentioned that the Communications Ministry plans to submit a proposal to the Cabinet seeking additional assistance for event organizers, in light of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 activities being extended until the end of 2027. He expressed confidence in the talent and capabilities of Malaysian youth in building careers within the sector.

"The creative economy is no longer on the fringes. It is a crucial driver of Malaysia's future," Fahmi remarked, underscoring the vital role of the industry in the country's economic development.
