LLM Launches Measures For Smooth Travel, Welcomes Toll Discount For Christmas

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has introduced operational measures to ensure safe and smooth travel during Christmas, such as restricting lane closures to emergencies only and activating smart lane systems at 30 key locations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, LLM director-general Datuk Sazali Harun stated that the authority will ensure toll collection systems operate at full efficiency, deploying a layered collection system at busy plazas to minimize congestion. He emphasized that all highway facilities, including R and Rs and lay-bys, will be fully operational and maintained throughout the festive season.

'There are extra parking spaces, portable toilets, and an adequate water supply, with additional staff to maintain cleanliness. We have also ensured fuel supply at stations along the highways,' Sazali remarked. He advised motorists to plan their journeys using LLM's TuJu Highway Navigation App and Travel Time Advisory, to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and to maintain sufficient balance in their toll card or e-wallet.

Motorcyclists have been advised to exercise caution and to use the 571 designated motorcycle shelters during rainy conditions. Meanwhile, Sazali welcomed the MADANI Government's announcement of a 50 percent toll discount for Class 1 vehicles as well as Class 2 on Penang Bridge, effective from 12.01 am on Dec 23 to 11.59 pm on Dec 24 at all toll plazas except the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plazas.

The LLM anticipates a significant increase in traffic, with up to 2.6 million vehicles expected daily during peak periods, including 2.2 million on PLUS Group highways. Additionally, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK), East Coast Expressway (LPT) Phases 1 and 2, and the West Coast Expressway (WCE) are also forecast to experience heavy congestion.
