Loke: 350,967 Renew Driving Licences Since BUDI95 Launch

Kuala lumpur: A total of 350,967 Malaysians have renewed their driving licences as of Oct 8 following the introduction of the targeted BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) fuel subsidy initiative, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He noted that this represents a 38 per cent increase in daily transactions recorded by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) since the announcement of BUDI95 on Sept 22.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke shared these insights at the JPJ monthly assembly and Corruption-Free Pledge (IBR) ceremony. The data reflects an encouraging public response to the rollout of the targeted subsidy initiative. Loke highlighted that the increase not only underscores public support for the government's initiative but also indicates greater awareness of the importance of having a valid driving licence among road users.

Loke expressed appreciation for JPJ personnel's dedication to ensuring a smooth licence renewal process nationwide. JPJ has been opening additional counters in various states on weekends to facilitate the process, which Loke commended as a proactive measure aiding the working community.

JPJ has not received complaints regarding licence renewals despite the surge in applications since BUDI95's introduction. Loke acknowledged the possibility of minor issues arising due to the sudden increase in renewals, as many want their licences linked to BUDI95.

Efforts to enhance integrity and close the corruption gap within the ministry are ongoing through the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), focusing on transparent governance. Loke reported that 86 per cent of initiatives under the JPJ Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2021-2025 have been implemented, showcasing the department's commitment to integrity.

ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification, recognized by SIRIM QAS International in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), underscores JPJ's leading role in international-standard anti-corruption management.

Loke emphasized that the IBR must translate into consistent actions by JPJ personnel. Initiatives like Op Luxury, Op Khas Gempur Perdagangan, MyLesen, helmet exchange, and the e-Testing system reflect integrity as key to effective policy implementation. The Transport Ministry and JPJ uphold a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, with strict action against any ethical breaches.
