Penang: A lorry attendant lost his life, and the driver sustained injuries after their vehicle skidded and collided with a road divider on the southbound lane of the North-South (PLUS) Expressway near KM116 early this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the deceased, identified as Saipol Nizam Aman @ Ahmad, 41, was trapped in the lorry cabin and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Mohd Azmi Mohd Yasa, 31, survived the crash with injuries.
John Sagun Francis, assistant director of the Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division, reported that they received a distress call at 5.42 am and promptly dispatched a team to the accident site. Upon arrival, the team found a five-tonne lorry lodged against the road divider with two individuals inside. Rescue personnel used specialised tools to extricate the trapped victim, completing the operation in about an hour.
The deceased was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical team from the Ministry of Health, and the body was transported to Kepala Batas Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
