Lorry Driver Remanded Following Fatal Crash at Bukit Kajang

Bukit kajang: A lorry driver involved in a fatal four-vehicle accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza yesterday has been remanded for two days starting today to assist in police investigations. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof stated that statements have been recorded from five individuals, including the owner of the lorry company involved in the incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, investigations revealed that the lorry was last serviced in April. The driver claimed he jumped out of the vehicle due to brake problems. However, further investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether the vehicle genuinely had brake issues, and the lorry will be sent for inspection.

Media reports yesterday indicated that the accident, which occurred at about 10.50 am, involved a lorry, a car, and two sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The crash resulted in the death of a one-year-old boy and injuries to seven others. Naazron noted that the baby was in the car with his mother, grandmother, and twin sibling. All the baby's family members have been discharged from Serdang Hospital after receiving treatment, while the other victims traveling in the two SUVs are still receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital and a private hospital in Kajang.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
