Labuan: The Labuan Port Authority (LPA) has issued a reminder to all private jetty operators in Labuan, emphasizing that their facilities are strictly limited to handling cargo belonging to their own companies. They are not authorized to manage general cargo or cargo owned by third parties.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, LPA general manager Mizool Amir Mat Drus communicated this reminder through a letter dated June 4, directed at all private jetty operators on the island. He stressed that all shipping, cargo handling, and jetty operations must adhere to federal laws and the licensing conditions set by relevant government agencies.
Mizool highlighted that the LPA's role is to ensure compliance with these regulations to protect the safety and economic sovereignty of Labuan waters. He clarified that private jetties were approved specifically for handling the cargo of their respective companies and that any cargo handled must be properly declared, in line with the approvals granted by the Customs Department.
He warned that the LPA would take necessary action in cases of non-compliance. Additionally, Mizool urged private jetty operators to enhance internal monitoring to ensure operations remain within the approved scope granted by authorities. He emphasized that ongoing cooperation from jetty operators is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Labuan's port and maritime activities.
