LRT3 Service Scheduled to Launch on December 31: Loke

Shah alam: The Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) service, designed to connect Shah Alam, Selangor, and its surrounding areas, is expected to begin operations on December 31, announced Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He stated that the project is currently in its final phase of testing and commissioning to ensure its reliability and safety.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry, along with Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and relevant authorities, is focusing on safety, operational reliability, and technical compliance before finalizing the opening date. Loke emphasized the importance of the final tests, including the fault-free run, to prevent technical issues upon launch.

During the ministry's committee-level debate on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat, Loke mentioned that Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has hired 956 workers across various categories in preparation for the LRT3's operations. These positions include roles in operations, technical, engineering, and support teams.

In a separate issue, Loke addressed the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 roof leakage following heavy rain. He instructed Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to take action against the contractor responsible, citing failure to adhere to standard operating procedures.

Loke also reiterated the ministry's firm stance on legal compliance concerning overloaded vehicles, emphasizing the need for decisiveness and political will to tackle this long-standing issue.

The Dewan Rakyat approved the Transport Ministry's estimated operating and development expenditure of RM6,767,918,800 for Budget 2026 by a majority voice vote. The sitting is set to resume tomorrow.
