Kuala lumpur: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) remains in effect and continues to hold significant relevance beyond the enactment of the Federal Constitution, emphasized Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. He highlighted that the commitments and responsibilities outlined in the agreement are still binding on all parties involved.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Armizan pointed out that this is in accordance with Article VIII of MA63. This article mandates the governments of the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo, and Sarawak to undertake necessary legislative, executive, or other measures to implement the guarantees and recommendations specified in Chapter 3 and Annexes A and B of the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report. He elaborated on this in a Facebook post commemorating Malaysia Day, emphasizing the enduring commitment of all parties to the agreement that led to the formation of the Federation of Malaysia.

Armizan noted that Malaysia, formed in 1963, commemorates its 63rd anniversary, although Malaysia Day was officially recognized in the national calendar starting in 2010. He stressed that understanding Malaysia's history should encompass not only the Federation of Malaya Agreement of 1948 and the social contract among the major ethnic groups but must fully acknowledge MA63 as the 'birth certificate' of the Federation.

In this 63/63rd anniversary, Armizan urged Malaysians to appreciate the significance of Malaysia Day by embracing the terms of the agreement, particularly those enshrined in Article VIII of MA63. He emphasized that there is no need for a new agreement or 'new deal' as some have suggested, citing the continued relevance and binding nature of MA63's provisions despite the Federal Constitution's enactment.

Armizan expressed optimism for Malaysia's future, hoping it will continue to evolve into a stronger and more advanced nation while ensuring prosperity and security for all its citizens.
