Kuala lumpur: The Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration across eight states and the federal capital was highlighted by a series of meaningful events focused on religious talks, Quran recitations, and the recognition of individuals who have made notable contributions to both the religion and the nation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, nearly 8,000 people, including representatives from various ministries, government departments, and agencies, as well as foreign dignitaries, gathered at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur for the national-level celebration. The event, graced by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, began at 9.30 am and featured the presence of Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and other Cabinet ministers.
In his address, Sultan Ibrahim emphasized the importance of not using Islam as a political tool for personal gain. During the event, the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah award was presented to former Johor Mufti Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot, while Saudi Arabia's Minister of Haj and Umrah, Dr Tawfig Fawzan Muhammed Al-Rabiah, received the International Maal Hijrah Figure award for 1447H/2025M.
In Pahang, the state-level celebration was attended by Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Kuantan. Former Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman was honored as the state's Maal Hijrah Figure.
In Melaka, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and state leaders joined over 3,000 Muslims at Al-Hakeem Mosque. Datuk Azmar Talib was named Melaka's Maal Hijrah Figure for 2025, receiving the Abu Bakar As-Siddiq award.
In Kedah, Sultan Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah urged the people to adopt the spirit and values of hijrah in addressing current issues during an assembly in Alor Setar.
In Sabah, the celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre was officiated by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman. Datuk Datu Amir Kahar Datu Mustapha and Datuk Seri Norsuadah Basah received the male and female Maal Hijrah Figure awards, respectively.
In Johor, the theme 'Membangun Ummah Maju Johor' was highlighted by state Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, emphasizing the importance of moral development alongside state progress.
In Terengganu, Yang Dipertuan Muda Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan led the celebrations at Wisma Darul Iman, urging the community to draw from the spirit of hijrah to foster a knowledgeable and virtuous Islamic society.
In Penang, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib presided over the event in Bayan Lepas, aligning with the national theme of 'Developing a MADANI Ummah' in his remarks.
In Sarawak, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg called for Muslims to be agents of change, with his speech delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Dewan Suarah Bintulu. Seventeen awards were given, acknowledging achievements in various fields.
