Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is prepared to collaborate with the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (MBCA) by sharing information and conducting joint operations to enhance efforts in combating corruption and misconduct.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC's chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, emphasized that this cooperation aligns with the agency's initiatives and supports the leadership of MBCA director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain in implementing 'internal cleansing' and reinforcing the agency's integrity. The MBCA, which encompasses key agencies such as the Malaysian Immigration Department and Royal Malaysian Customs Department, requires close coordination in enforcement to bolster efforts against corruption as spearheaded by Mohd Shuhaily.
Azam noted the importance of discussions aimed at assisting Mohd Shuhaily in implementing these changes, particularly considering the diverse backgrounds and attitudes of the officers under his command. He respects Mohd Shuhaily's approach to strengthening MBCA's integrity and has personally discussed this commitment with him.
These comments were made to reporters after the MACC-UiTM Inspiration 2025: Integrity and Leadership Day ceremony at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam Campus. At the event, Azam, who also serves as an adjunct professor at UiTM, delivered a keynote address titled "Integrity is the Core of Leadership, Trust is the Foundation of Success," alongside UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin Sahib Sahibuddin.
In related developments, an MBCA officer was recently arrested in Johor Bahru to aid investigations into alleged involvement in 'flying passport' activities. The MBCA Integrity Unit's arrest is part of ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and prevent illegal entry attempts by foreign nationals. During a raid at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), the officer was found in possession of eight foreign passports, including six Chinese passports and one each from Indonesia and Vietnam.
