MACC Highlights Governance Issues in UiTM Holdings Management

Shah Alam:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified governance issues and weaknesses within the management of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd after investigating the company's financial losses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman announced that the commission plans to recommend measures to address these identified shortcomings. Reviewing governance practices is an integral part of the MACC's investigative framework, although such issues cannot be prosecuted in court. The recommendations are intended to foster improvements within the organization.

During a press conference held in conjunction with the MACC's 59th anniversary celebration, Abd Halim Aman emphasized that the MACC is committed to suggesting improvements wherever weaknesses are found. Specifically for UiTM Holdings, several measures will be proposed to tackle the governance issues identified.

The investigation into UiTM Holdings began in 2023 and remains ongoing. Abd Halim noted that criminal investigations are not bound by a limitation period and will continue until all necessary information, evidence, exhibits, and documents are obtained. Currently, the focus is on a single suspect who was charged, but the investigation could expand if new evidence comes to light.

In related developments, former UiTM Holdings CEO Azlizan Fadzil, 52, pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 million in 2017.
