MACC’s Strike Programme Enhances Staff Health, Efficiency

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched the Weight Management Awareness Programme (STRIKE) to enhance the health, fitness, and weight management of its employees. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the programme aims to ensure that MACC personnel remain fit, healthy, and well-presented to meet the demands of enforcement duties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azam emphasized the importance of MACC officers projecting an image that reflects the organisation's integrity. "Good health is no longer a choice but a necessity to ensure task effectiveness and public confidence," he stated in a seminar titled 'One Strike! Towards a Healthy Lifestyle, Strike The Weight, Strive For Health!'

Azam highlighted the need for greater participant commitment, noting that less than 50 per cent of staff had attended scheduled sessions since the programme's inception in July. These sessions include health talks and weekly physical activities. To improve participation, several initiatives have been introduced, such as healthier meeting menu options, calorie information displays at cafeterias, calorie markers on staircases, and the use of gym facilities. Additionally, Friday afternoons are now dedicated to fitness activities led by certified instructors.

He further stressed that lifestyle transformation requires self-discipline and continuous awareness, beyond just programme participation. The aim is to cultivate a work culture where healthy living is a permanent fixture, ensuring officers are efficient and both physically and mentally strong.

The STRIKE programme will also serve as a research project by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Malaysian Obesity Society (MYOS), with findings set for academic publication upon the programme's conclusion in January 2026.

The programme features a diverse range of activities, available both in-person and online. Among these are 'Sembang Santai Kopi O' sessions, lifestyle and weight monitoring logbooks, individual nutrition counselling, basic health assessments, expert sharing sessions, healthy cooking demonstrations, and fitness training with professional coaches.
