Kuala lumpur: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has emphasized that the recent arrests of several Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) officers are isolated incidents that do not compromise the overall integrity of the nation's defence institution. He urged the public to continue respecting and trusting the armed forces despite these occurrences.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled stressed that military personnel should avoid unlawful actions to maintain the esteemed image of the armed forces. "I hope no one abuses the rank or position entrusted to them to commit unlawful acts. I emphasize that this case does not represent the MAF. The MAF remains strong, respected, and trusted by the people to defend the nation's sovereignty," he said during the launch of the ministry's Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign in conjunction with National Month 2025.
Earlier reports indicated that three serving and two former MAF officers were among ten individuals arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as part of an investigation into a smuggling syndicate in southern Peninsular Malaysia. Despite these developments, Mohamed Khaled highlighted the importance of instilling the spirit of nationhood in every citizen, particularly within the MAF and the defence community.
He remarked that the MAF symbolizes not only physical defence but also sovereignty, integrity, and national independence. "When we talk about independence, we immediately picture the warriors who defended the country. Every parade at Dataran Merdeka and Warriors' Day is a manifestation of the MAF's image, and we must uphold this dignified image," he stated.
Mohamed Khaled further called on society to revive patriotic feelings and reject any elements that could threaten national unity. He underscored this year's theme, 'Malaysia MADANI, Rakyat Disantuni', as a call to serve the nation with sincerity and integrity. "Flying the Jalur Gemilang is not just a mere symbol but represents patriotism, freedom, and the nation's well-being," he said.
He concluded by asserting the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the nation's warriors and preserving the image and integrity of the MAF, ensuring it remains the primary bulwark in defending the nation's sovereignty.
