Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has mobilised 4,428 personnel, supported by 506 land, 7,355 maritime, and 19 air assets to face the Northeast Monsoon, which began on November 13. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced this mobilisation as part of MAF's proactive measures in carrying out Ops Murni to assist the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) during the monsoon season.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan has been appointed to lead the Ops Murni mission, with the Army Operations and Training Branch serving as NADMA's Point of Contact. Additionally, 15 Military Commanders, consisting of Division and Brigade Commanders in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, have been appointed to ensure effective execution of the mission. The Defence Minister shared these updates during a media briefing at the Kementah Camp, where he also received a comprehensive briefing on Ops Murni and inspected 17 Ops Murni assets, including military trucks, water trailers, field ambulances, safety-equipped boats, and modular tents.
Mohamed Khaled further elaborated that MetMalaysia has forecast continuous rainfall from early November until the end of March 2026, affecting states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Sabah. He stressed that the armed forces maintain their personnel, assets, and all three service branches-the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Royal Malaysian Air Force-at an optimal level to ensure a rapid response. This effort underscores the MAF's commitment not only as the cornerstone of national defence but also as an organisation dedicated to public safety and well-being.
In addition, NADMA has supplied modular (Bailey) bridges, which can be mobilised as required by the situation. The MAF will focus on areas showing increased risk of flooding based on real-time monitoring once rainfall begins. Ops Murni is conducted in line with the Whole of Government, Whole of Society approach and the aspirations of the Defence White Paper through the Comprehensive Defence (HANRUH) concept to protect the public during emergencies and disasters.
