Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has expressed its readiness to assist in humanitarian operations in Nepal following the devastating floods that have ravaged the country, as announced by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. However, the deployment of MAF resources remains contingent upon the Malaysian government's decision.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled emphasized the MAF's preparedness to lend its expertise and resources to humanitarian and peace missions if called upon. He stated, "The MAF is ready to contribute its expertise and capabilities to humanitarian and peace-related missions in Nepal. However, it depends on the government's decision as to whether the MAF's involvement is needed." His remarks came during a press conference following the Defence Ministry's launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2026.

Earlier reports from the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu highlighted the concerning situation where 54 Malaysians remain unreachable after flash floods struck the Rasuwa district. The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall and an avalanche from a glacier along the Bhote Koshi River, have severely impacted the Nepal-Tibet border area.

The natural disaster has disrupted communication networks and severed the main road connecting the affected region to Kathmandu, complicating efforts for communication and movement for those hit by the calamity.
