MAFE Plans State Engagements for Entertainment Duty Exemptions

Accra:The Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) will engage with state governments to promote the adoption of entertainment duty exemptions for local film screenings and theatre performances across the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAFE has expressed support for the exemption in the Federal Territories, set to begin on January 1, 2027. The association considers this a positive step for Malaysia's creative industries and the local film ecosystem.

MAFE is also prepared to collaborate with the Communications Ministry and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) to ensure the effective implementation of these measures.

The initiative follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent announcement during the presentation of Budget 2027, which urged all states to adopt similar measures. Additionally, Anwar allocated over RM130 million to the film, music, and creative content sectors to bolster Malaysia's image, create jobs, and share local stories internationally.
