MAHB Committed To Enhance Airport Emergency Management Preparedness

Melaka: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) remains committed to strengthening emergency management preparedness at its airport network, in line with international standards to ensure passenger safety. MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani emphasized that with nearly 60 million passengers having used the airport network across Malaysia as of July 2025, preparedness is the foundation of global confidence in the country's airports.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this commitment is embodied through the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS), ensuring that all members and officers comply with the Civil Aviation (Aerodrome Operations) Regulations 2016. This compliance aligns with the standards and recommended practices outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the requirements set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

Earlier in the day, Mohd Izani spoke at the 14th AFRS Training Graduation Parade, officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, at Melaka International Airport (LTAM) Batu Berendam. He further elaborated on the importance of compliance, stating that it ensures Malaysian airports maintain the highest level of emergency management and operations. He highlighted the essential role of AFRS in flight operation safety, which requires quick action, knowledge, discipline, and courage in handling emergencies on the ground.

He also noted that AFRS is crucial to airport safety and that confidence in emergency management preparedness is vital for providing the best visitor experience, especially as preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 are underway. The ceremony marked the completion of 23 weeks of intensive training by 159 trainees, which began on April 15. The training comprised three main phases: the transition and consolidation phase, the basic training phase, and the final 'on the job training' phase. This rigorous program tested physical and mental endurance, discipline, camaraderie, spiritual strength, technical knowledge, and understanding of civil aviation laws in line with international standards.
