Mahkota By-election Once Again Shows Solidarity Of Unity Govt Parties- Ahmad Zahid

KLUANG, The Mahkota state by-election once again demonstrates the solidarity of political parties within the Unity Government, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said that the collaboration among the parties was evident in previous by-elections, with party machinery assisting each other.

‘We (BN) helped DAP in the Kuala Kubu Bharu (Selangor) by-election, then we assisted PKR during the Sungai Bakap (Penang) by-election, and everyone also helped us (BN) recently in the Nenggiri by-election (Kelantan).

‘This time, BN is contesting, but all the machinery from parties in the Unity Government are with us to ensure victory for our candidate in the Mahkota seat,” he said at the launch of the Unity Government By-Election Operations Centre for the Mahkota seat here today.

Also present were BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, and
BN candidate for the by-election, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah.

The Mahkota by-election on Sept 28 will see a straight fight between BN’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, and Perikatan Nasional (PN)’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, with early voting scheduled for Sept 24.

This by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2

In the previous state election, Sharifah Azizah, representing BN, won with a majority of 5,166 votes in a four-cornered contest involving candidates from PH, PN, and Warisan.
