MAIK Enhances Braille Quran Education with New Learning Centre

Kota bharu: The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK), in partnership with the Kelantan branch of the Malaysian Islamic Association for the Visually Impaired (Pertis), has initiated efforts to enhance Braille Quran education through a newly established learning centre in the vicinity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAIK president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz announced that the al-Quran programme is now being conducted at the Pusat Pengajian Al-Quran Pertis located in Kampung Bunut Payong. Previously, the classes were held at a rented facility in Padang Mokkan, but operations were shifted in December last year to a more conducive wakaf house in Bunut Payong.

Tengku Mohamad Rizam highlighted that MAIK has provided four e-Braille devices, which are specialized computers for the visually impaired, along with two Braille typewriters, collectively valued at RM50,660, to aid in the educational process. These devices, developed from research conducted by a lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, are designed to assist the visually impaired in reading, typing, and listening.

Furthermore, MAIK has appointed Wan Mohd Fadhil Wan Pauzi, who is also visually impaired, as a religious teacher to ensure continuous and effective instruction. This initiative aims to facilitate the teaching and learning of the al-Quran and broaden access to education for the visually impaired community.

Currently, the centre serves 22 visually impaired students aged between 23 and 72, who are guided by three visually impaired instructors.
