Malaysia Achieves Major Success with 20 Awards at ASEAN Energy Awards 2026

Manila:Malaysia has achieved significant success by securing 20 accolades, including eight wins, at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2026 held in Manila, the Philippines, marking an improvement over last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) announced that Malaysia also earned seven first-runner-up and five second-runner-up positions. This accomplishment surpasses the country's previous year's performance, which included 16 accolades and six wins.

The awards were a result of the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards and the ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards. These involved various projects focused on energy-efficient and green buildings, biogas, solar, and micro-hydro. Recognition was also given to projects employing new and innovative technologies such as green hydrogen, waste-to-energy, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

PETRA highlighted that organizations received initial recognition through the National Energy Awards 2026 (NEA) before representing Malaysia at the AEA 2026. The NEA serves as a national platform that acknowledges and identifies high-performing organizations for international representation.

The ministry emphasized that this regional achievement demonstrates the capability of local industries, businesses, and institutions in advancing the nation's energy transition aspirations through practical and innovative solutions. It also reflects the successful collaboration among the government, industry, and strategic partners in strengthening the national energy ecosystem.

The ASEAN Energy Awards coincided with the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF). Malaysia's performance aligns with the goals outlined in the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) to establish a secure, sustainable, and inclusive energy system, bolstering the country's long-term economic competitiveness.

PETRA extended its highest congratulations to all recipients for their achievements, noting that this success underscores the progress within the national energy sector and Malaysia's commitment to promoting secure, resilient, and sustainable energy development for the benefit of both the nation and the ASEAN region.
