Malaysia: Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air have cancelled a total of 20 flights between Malaysia and Jakarta today after volcanic ash from the ongoing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau disrupted operations at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia Airlines announced the cancellation of 12 flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Jakarta (CGK), specifically MH713, MH712, MH711, MH710, MH717, MH716, MH721, MH720, MH723, MH722, MH725, and MH724. The airline stated that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will provide updates directly to affected customers. Passengers are encouraged to update their contact details via the 'My Booking' section on the Malaysia Airlines website to receive timely notifications by email and SMS. The airline also offers support through its Live Chat feature on the website and its Global Contact Centre. Emphasizing safety, the national carrier stressed that the safety of passengers and crew is its utmost priority.
Meanwhile, Batik Air issued a separate statement regarding the cancellation of eight scheduled flights between Malaysia and Jakarta. These include flights OD398, OD399, OD346, OD347, OD388, OD389, OD390, and OD391. Six of these services operate between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Jakarta, while two flights are between Subang and Jakarta. Batik Air explained that the decision was made following close coordination with aviation authorities and airport operators to ensure the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew. The airline highlighted that volcanic ash can reduce visibility, interfere with aircraft navigation systems, and potentially affect engine performance.
Batik Air will continue to observe the situation and update its flight operations through its official website and social media channels. Affected passengers will be notified via their registered contact details and can choose to reschedule their travel to the next available Batik Air flight, subject to availability, or request a refund. Passengers are advised to contact Batik Air's Customer Care Centre or their respective booking channels for assistance with their preferred option.
