Kuala lumpur: The additional allocation of RM100 million to the Palestinians in Gaza will focus on the reconstruction of the region that was affected by Israel's genocide, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He stated that this latest contribution differs in approach from previous efforts, which were primarily focused on providing food aid.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted that past contributions, coordinated with the private sector around October and November 2023, saw much of the food supply go to waste due to the Zionist regime's blockade, which prevented the aid from entering Gaza. This time, the emphasis may shift towards rebuilding efforts in Gaza, potentially in cooperation with international partners, including Japan. Fahmi shared these insights during the Communications Ministry's Monthly Assembly, attended by Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Fahmi reaffirmed the government's steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that the latest allocation strengthens Malaysia's support. He reiterated Malaysia's unchanged stance on Palestinian independence, which is unconditional and not contingent on the prevailing situation.
In a related announcement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, speaking at the 'Malam Himpunan dan Selawat Malaysiaku Bersama Gaza' event at Dataran Merdeka, confirmed that the MADANI Government had approved the additional RM100 million allocation to assist Palestinians facing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Anwar, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, underscored Malaysia's continued dedication to defending Palestinian rights. He urged large companies and corporations to contribute aid and called on Malaysians to reflect on the peace and freedom they enjoy while extending compassion to those in need.
